What Was the USFL?
The United States Football League (USFL) is one of the most storied names in alternate football history, with two distinct chapters separated by nearly four decades. The original USFL (1983–1985) was a genuine challenge to the NFL, featuring legitimate star power (Herschel Walker, Jim Kelly, Steve Young, Reggie White, Doug Flutie), sold-out stadiums, and some of the greatest offensive football ever played. The modern USFL (2022–2023) revived the brand and delivered compelling spring football before merging with the XFL to form the UFL in 2024. The Birmingham Stallions became the only team to win back-to-back USFL Championships in the modern era.
