About the Chicago Blitz

The Chicago Blitz were one of the most ambitious original USFL franchises. Founded in 1983 and based at Soldier Field, the Blitz were owned by Dr. Ted Diethrich and coached by NFL Hall of Famer George Allen, who built a roster around veterans like quarterback Greg Landry, running back Tim Spencer and a defense designed in his trademark "Future is Now" win-now style. The 1983 Blitz went 12-6 and reached the playoffs, finishing as one of the league's best defensive units.

For the 1984 season, owner Diethrich essentially swapped franchises with the Arizona Wranglers — moving most of the original Blitz roster to Arizona and bringing the Wranglers' weaker squad to Chicago. The 1984 Blitz, badly weakened by the trade, went 5-13. The franchise didn't return for the 1985 USFL season. The Royal Retros Chicago Blitz collection celebrates the Blitz' brief but memorable USFL run with apparel for spring-football collectors.
