About the Memphis Red Sox
The Memphis Red Sox were a long-running Negro Leagues franchise that played in Memphis, Tennessee from 1924 through 1962 — making them one of the longest-tenured NLB franchises. The Red Sox were a charter member of the Negro American League (founded 1937) and remained in the NAL through the league's 1962 dissolution. The franchise played at Lewis Park (later Martin Stadium) in Memphis and was one of the NAL's most consistent Southern Division franchises throughout the 1940s and 1950s.
After Major League Baseball's December 16, 2020 reclassification of the seven Negro Leagues operating between 1920 and 1948 as major leagues, every NLB-era player from this franchise is now an MLB-recognized major leaguer.
