Utah Sports History

The Utah Stars (1970–1975) are the cornerstone — ABA champions in 1971 with Zelmo Beaty leading the way, the Stars were one of the league's healthiest franchises until financial collapse forced a mid-season fold. The Salt Lake Golden Eagles spent decades as one of minor-league hockey's most consistent franchises across the CHL, IHL, and elsewhere. The Salt Lake Trappers became a national story in 1987 when they won 29 straight games as a Pioneer League independent. The Salt Lake Stallions of the AAF gave Utah football fans a brief but bright run in 2019. The Utah Blaze of the AFL, Utah Starzz of the WNBA's original 1997 class (later relocated to become the San Antonio Stars), and Salt Lake Occidentals of the NLB-era West Coast circuit all add layers most fans don't know exist.
