About the Hilldale Club
The Hilldale Club (also known as the Hilldale Daisies) was a Negro Leagues baseball franchise based in Darby, Pennsylvania (just outside Philadelphia) and a charter franchise of the Eastern Colored League in 1923. The Club won the 1925 Colored World Series, defeating Rube Foster's Kansas City Monarchs 5 games to 1 — Hilldale's only championship. The franchise produced Hall of Famers Judy Johnson and Biz Mackey. Hilldale was sold and folded in 1932 amid the broader collapse of organized Black baseball during the early Depression years.
After Major League Baseball's December 16, 2020 reclassification of the seven Negro Leagues operating between 1920 and 1948 as major leagues, every NLB-era player from this franchise is now an MLB-recognized major leaguer.
