Authentic San Antonio Gunslingers Throwbacks. Custom Names & Numbers. Sizes S–5XL.

The San Antonio Gunslingers were the USFL's most chaotic franchise — a Texas team whose owner couldn't make payroll, whose players sometimes went weeks without paychecks, and whose two seasons at Alamo Stadium produced the most colorful folklore of the spring-football era. The Royal Retros Gunslingers collection brings the 1984–1985 USFL Texans back with throwback jerseys, hats, and tees in the brown-and-orange Western colorway nobody else has ever copied. Free name and number on most styles. Sizes S–5XL.

About the San Antonio Gunslingers

The Gunslingers joined the USFL as one of six expansion teams in 1984, owned by South Texas oilman Clinton Manges and coached by former Texas A&I legend Gil Steinke. With Rick Neuheisel running the offense and a no-name defense playing inspired football, San Antonio went 7–11 in its inaugural season at the venerable Alamo Stadium and drew respectable crowds.

1985 was a different story. Manges' South Texas oil business cratered with the early-1980s oil bust. Players' paychecks bounced. Equipment vendors went unpaid. By midseason the Gunslingers were practicing in donated gear, and players openly discussed walking off the field. They finished 5–13, never won an away game all year, and the league dissolved that summer before a third season could begin. Manges later faced lawsuits from former players over unpaid wages that took years to resolve. Despite all that, the Gunslingers remain a beloved chapter of San Antonio sports memory — the Alamodome era was still nearly a decade away, and pro football in San Antonio meant the Gunslingers, scandal and all.
