The San Antonio Gunslingers were one of the original USFL's most distinctive, and most financially troubled, franchises. Owned by Clinton Manges and coached by Gil Steinke, the Gunslingers played at the historic Alamo Stadium and drew a passionate Texas fanbase despite limited resources and player-payment delays that became part of the league's later legal disputes.
San Antonio went 7–11 in 1984 and 5–13 in 1985, with future college head coach Rick Neuheisel at quarterback in the final season. The Gunslingers folded with the rest of the league after 1985.
