Chicago Sports History

Chicago is one of the deepest pre-modern Black baseball markets in America. The Chicago American Giants — Rube Foster's franchise — founded the Negro National League in 1920 and dominated the league's first decade. Beyond Black baseball, Chicago hosted the USFL Blitz (Doug Flutie, George Allen) in 1983–1984 and the XFL Enforcers at Soldier Field in 2001. The AAFC Chicago Rockets played at Soldier Field 1946–1949. Royal Retros honors all of it.
