What Was the Continental Football League?

The Continental Football League (COFL) was a minor professional American football league that operated from 1965 through 1969. Originally formed from the merger of the United Football League and Atlantic Coast Football League franchises, the COFL grew to over twenty teams across the eastern half of the United States. The league produced players who advanced to NFL and AFL careers and is remembered as one of the most ambitious U.S. minor pro football leagues ever attempted.
