About the Baltimore Black Sox

The Baltimore Black Sox were one of the founding franchises of the Eastern Colored League, established in 1923 as the eastern counterpart to Rube Foster's Negro National League. The Black Sox played at Maryland Park and later Bugle Field in Baltimore. The franchise competed for the Colored World Series multiple times and produced Hall of Fame talent including Pete Hill, John Beckwith, and Jud Wilson. After the ECL's 1928 collapse, the Black Sox played in successor leagues through 1934 before folding.

After Major League Baseball's December 16, 2020 reclassification of the seven Negro Leagues operating between 1920 and 1948 as major leagues, every NLB-era player from this franchise is now an MLB-recognized major leaguer.
