Why does Louisiana have so many forgotten teams?

Because New Orleans has always been a sports town that leagues wanted a piece of — and because the city kept saying yes. The baseball Pelicans anchored local summers for generations. When new leagues launched — the ABA, the USFL, arena football, the ECHL — New Orleans was a natural stop, and it took a swing at almost all of them. Most of those clubs came and went, but the affection didn't.
