Team: Chicago Fire, Chicago Winds
Years Active: 1974-1975
Home: Soldier Field (Chicago, IL)

The Chicago Fire played the first season of the World Football League in 1974. The team started off 7-2, but went on a 10 game losing streak after some key injuries. The owner was so angered by the collapse, he shut down the team and forfeited the final game of the season. Struggling financially, the league went all in on a new franchise the Chicago Winds. The hopes for the entire league depended on the Winds signing Joe Namath and the team even made the uniforms resemble the Jets to please Namath. When negotiations fell through, there was no interest in the team or league without Namath and the league lost its television deal. The Winds folded after only 5 games and the league folded a few weeks later.
