The Chicago Spurs were a charter member of the National Professional Soccer League in 1967, one of two rival circuits whose merger created the North American Soccer League (NASL). Playing home matches at Soldier Field, the Spurs finished third in the Western Division behind Rookie of the Year Willy Roy, who scored 17 goals in his debut professional season.
After a single season in Chicago, the franchise moved to Missouri in 1968 to become the Kansas City Spurs, where it would go on to win the league championship in 1969. The Spurs' brief Chicago run remains a colorful chapter from the earliest days of the modern North American game.
