The San Antonio Riders were a professional American football team based in San Antonio, Texas, that played the two seasons of the original World League of American Football, in 1991 and 1992. Coached by future Oregon State and San Diego Chargers head coach Mike Riley, the Riders were one of the best North American teams in the league, posting a 7–3 record in 1992 in a strong West Division.

The San Antonio Riders Era-by-Era History

1991 — The Inaugural Season. San Antonio joined the World League as one of its founding North American franchises, bringing spring pro football to South Texas under head coach Mike Riley.

1992 — A Winning Year. The Riders posted a 7–3 record, part of a dominant North American West Division that also featured the champion Sacramento Surge (8–2) and Birmingham Fire (7–2–1). San Antonio was right in the thick of the league's best division.

The End of the Original WLAF. The NFL suspended the World League after 1992, and the Riders folded with the rest of the league's North American clubs — a strong team cut short by the league's closure.
