Bay Area Sports History — The Streetwear Foundation

The Bay Area is one of the deepest pre-modern pro sports markets in America. The PCL San Francisco Seals and Oakland Oaks gave the Bay AAA-quality baseball for half a century before the Giants and A's relocated. The California Golden Seals brought NHL hockey to Oakland in 1967, eight years before the Sharks were even an idea. The ABA Oakland Oaks won a championship in 1969. The USFL Invaders reached the league championship game in 1985. The original XFL Demons hosted the league's only Million Dollar Game site in 2001. The IHL Spiders gave the Bay one season of major-minor hockey at Cow Palace in 1995–96. The West Coast Negro Baseball Association's Sea Lions and Larks gave Black baseball a Bay Area home in 1946.
