For a half a century, the Oaks were the rivals of the cross bay San Francisco Seals. While often overshadowed by the success of the Seals, the Oaks won 5 championships of their own. While managing the Oaks, hall of famer Casey Stengel is credited with inventing the platoon system by starting different players based on matchups. Their most famous team was the 1948 championship team known as the "9 old men" which was made up of former major league players.Â
