The Oakland Larks were original members of the West Coast Negro League in 1946. The league was short lived and lasted only one season, but the Larks continued on as a barnstorming team. The team traveled the U.S. and Canada, playing wherever they could find opponents. Lionel Wilson, a future mayor of Oakland and Sam Jones a two-time Major League All-Star both pitched for the Larks. The Larks played their home games at Emeryville Park, also known as Oaks Park and the Oakland Baseball Park.
