The Victoria Aristocrats were a charter member of the Pacific Coast Hockey Association (PCHA), founded by Lester Patrick when he and his brother Frank built the PCHA in 1911. The Aristocrats won back-to-back PCHA championships in 1912–13 and 1913–14, becoming one of the league's dominant early-era forces and pursuing Stanley Cup challenges against NHL champions in both title years.

Coached by Lester Patrick himself across the franchise's five-season Aristocrats era, the team built around stars including Frank Foyston, Tommy Dunderdale, and Lester Patrick's own playing legacy. The franchise was renamed the Victoria Cougars for the 1916–17 season and would go on to capture the 1925 Stanley Cup under the new identity. The Aristocrats name remains one of the most evocative early-20th-century professional hockey identities.
