The Sacramento Monarchs were a women's basketball team that played in the current pro league from 1997 to 2009. They were successful on the court and at the gate, winning the 2005 league title. The tea, was owned by the Maloof family, who also owned the men's pro team in town. When the Monarchs'' record slipped, they Maloof's lost interest and tried to sell the team. The league, unable to relocate the club, folded it instead.
