The CityHawks were a last-minute addition to the Arena Football League in response to the New Jersey Red Dogs joining the league. Madison Square Garden ownership requested a team of their own and put together the organization in only a few months. On the field, it showed how quickly the team was assembled.  They only won five games in two seasons before they moved to Hartford and later to Toronto.
