The Memphis Rogues kicked off in North American Soccer League (NASL) for the 1978, 1979, and 1980 seasons, playing their home matches at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. Named with an elephant-mascot theme that gave the club real personality, the Rogues also became a surprise of the league's experimental winter indoor season, charging to the championship series before falling in the final. The franchise mixed imported and homegrown talent during the sport's high-water years in America. After the 1980 season the club was sold and relocated north.
