The San Diego Riptide played four seasons in the af2 from 2003 to 2006 at the San Diego Sports Arena. The Riptide brought arena football back to Southern California after the AFL Cobras' single 1988 season and the LA Avengers' mainland-California presence in the 2000s, giving San Diego its first dedicated indoor football team.
