The San Diego Fleet played the abbreviated 2019 season in the AAF at SDCCU Stadium, the former home of the NFL Chargers before their 2017 relocation to Los Angeles. The Fleet were one of eight founding franchises in Charlie Ebersol's spring-football league.
Head coach Mike Martz led the Fleet to a 3–5 finish when the league suspended operations in April 2019. Quarterback Mike Bercovici and running back Ja'Quan Gardner were among the standouts during the eight-week run. The Fleet gave the San Diego market its first pro football presence after the Chargers departed.
