The Detroit Express roared into North American Soccer League (NASL) from 1978 to 1980, playing in the suburban comfort of the Pontiac Silverdome during the league's high-flying golden era. The club made an immediate splash by signing England striker Trevor Francis, whose prolific scoring made the Express one of the most exciting attacking sides of the day. One of those high-powered nights produced a 10–0 demolition that stood for decades as the widest victory margin in American major-league soccer. The franchise was relocated after the 1980 season.
