The New Orleans VooDoo played five seasons in the AFL from 2004 to 2008, then briefly returned in 2011 at the New Orleans Arena (now Smoothie King Center), home of the NBA's New Orleans Pelicans. The VooDoo were co-owned by NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino.
The franchise's 2005 and 2006 seasons were disrupted by Hurricane Katrina, but the team returned to the city and built strong New Orleans support through 2008. After the AFL hiatus, the VooDoo briefly returned for 2011 before folding again. The VooDoo represent New Orleans's most prominent AFL chapter after the earlier New Orleans Night (1991–1992).
