The Portland Rosebuds were one of the most consequential franchises in the early history of the Pacific Coast Hockey Association (PCHA), founded by Frank and Lester Patrick when the league expanded into Portland for the 1914–15 season. The Rosebuds captured the PCHA championship in 1915–16 and made history that spring by becoming the first U.S.-based team ever to play for the Stanley Cup — falling to the Montreal Canadiens in a five-game final.

The Rosebuds played four seasons of PCHA hockey at the Portland Ice Hippodrome before relocating to Chicago for the 1926–27 season, where the franchise became the Chicago Blackhawks of the major professional hockey league. A second Portland Rosebuds franchise briefly played in 1925–26. The original Rosebuds remain one of the most historically significant early-20th-century professional hockey identities.
