The Shreveport Steamer were the 1975 successor to the Houston Texans of the World Football League (WFL), relocating from the Astrodome to State Fair Stadium in Louisiana. Shreveport was one of the smallest markets in the WFL, and the Steamer's single season reflected the league's broader struggle to balance ambition with financial reality. The WFL folded in October 1975, cutting the Steamer's run short. It remains the only major professional football franchise Shreveport has ever hosted.
