The St. Petersburg Pelicans were the only champions in the brief history of the Senior Professional Baseball Association — winning the inaugural 1989–90 title at Al Lang Stadium over the West Palm Beach Tropics. Managed by Bobby Tolan, the Pelicans were one of eight charter SPBA franchises in a minor leagues winter league for retired major-leaguers age 35-and-up.

Notable Pelicans included Bobby Bonds, Ozzie Virgil, Joaquín Andújar, and Tom Underwood. The SPBA was founded by California businessman Jim Morley but collapsed financially during its second season — making the Pelicans the league's lone champion.
