The Tallahassee Tiger Sharks were established in 1981 as the Nashville Stars in the Central Hockey League (CHL).  After stops in Huntsville and Roanoke, they became the Virginia Lancers in 1983 and, in turn, became charter members of the East Coast league in 1988. They moved to Tallahassee in 1994 and spent seven season's in Florida's capital before relocating to Georgia and becoming a new iteration of the Macon Whoopees in 2001.
