The Cleveland Barons hold a singular distinction in Legacy Hockey history: they are the last team to fold from the top tier of North American professional hockey. The franchise had relocated from Oakland in 1976 — the Gund brothers moving the struggling California Golden Seals to their hometown of Cleveland — and set up shop at the Richfield Coliseum. After two seasons, the league brokered an unprecedented 1978 merger with the Minnesota North Stars, ending the Barons' brief Cleveland run.
