The Cincinnati Swords played three seasons of top-level minor league hockey at the Cincinnati Gardens from 1971 to 1974 as the top-level affiliate of Buffalo's major-league hockey club, capturing the Calder Cup in 1973 — the Queen City's first major hockey championship.

The 1972–73 roster was anchored by goaltender Don Edwards, center Jim Lorentz and defenseman Jocelyn Guevremont, all of whom went on to careers in the top tier of professional hockey. The Swords folded after the 1973–74 season once the WHA's Cincinnati Stingers arrived and changed the city's hockey landscape, but the Calder Cup banner remains Cincinnati's first major professional hockey championship.
