The Sacramento Solons carried the capital city's professional baseball identity from 1903 through 1976, playing most of that run at Edmonds Field on Riverside Boulevard. The club took the Solons name in 1936, succeeding the Senators, and captured its only Pacific Coast League pennant in 1942.

A 1948 fire nearly destroyed Edmonds Field, but the ballpark was rebuilt and the Solons played on through 1960, when the franchise was sold and relocated to Honolulu as the Hawaii Islanders. A short-lived revival brought Sacramento's PCL club back from 1974 to 1976.
