The Tampa Smokers played in several different minor leagues circuits but spent most of their existence in the Florida State League and the Florida International League. They made their home at the appropriately named Plant Field, a nod to Tampa's tobacco-and-cigar history.
Three separate incarnations of the Smokers existed across the franchise's 35-year run — all at the minor-league level. The Smokers are notable as one of the first racially integrated professional teams in Florida. Notable players included Joe Medwick, Camilo Pascual, Tommy Leach, and Manuel Cueto.
