The Phoenix Inferno brought indoor soccer to the desert, competing in the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) from 1980 to 1983 at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The club debuted in November 1980 before a raucous crowd of more than 11,000 and spent three seasons delivering the fast, end-to-end action that defined early-'80s indoor soccer. The franchise weathered real turbulence off the floor — including the tragic death of its original owner — before being sold and rebranded under new ownership ahead of the 1983–84 season.
