Team: Minnesota Fighting Pike
Years Active: 1996
Home: Target Center (Minneapolis, MN)
The Minnesota Fighting Pike were an interesting, but short-lived, expansion team in the Arena Football League (AFL) in 1996. The team was made up mostly of players who had played college football in Minnesota, most notably former Golden Gopher signal caller Rickey Foggie. Kicker Mike Vanderjagt, who did not play college ball in Minnesota, was the team’s kicker. Their head coach was Ray Jauch, who spent many years in the same position with several Canadian Football League teams, as well as two with the Washington Federals of the original United States Football League. The Fighting Pike finished 4 and 10 in their only season. The Twin Cities are now home to the Minnesota Myth of the newly reformed Arena Football League and are coached by former Fighting Pike, Rickey Foggie.
