The Stars were a charter member of the 1967 United Soccer Association, one of a dozen clubs that stocked their rosters by importing entire teams from overseas — Houston's 1967 lineup was, in effect, a Brazilian first-division side playing under the Stars' banner. Owned by Judge Roy Hofheinz, the Houston power broker behind the Astrodome itself, the Stars played in the world's first domed stadium and finished fourth in the Western Division.

When the league merged with its rival in 1968 to form the North American Soccer League, Houston fielded a fresh roster for one more season before folding at year's end.
