The original Denver Bears started in 1885. They went through a variety of names before settling on the Bears  nickname in 1913. The team was successful throughout its history with both the 1911 and 1980 teams being named as top-100 teams in minor league history. Over the years, superstars such as Andre Dawson, Tim Raines, Graig Nettles, and Terry "Tito" Francona played for the team. In 1984, the team was renamed the Denver Zephyrs. When the big leagues came to Denver, the team moved to New Orleans.
