The B.C. Icemen carried professional hockey in Binghamton for five seasons, arriving in 1997 and playing through 2002 in one of the top developmental leagues of the era. The "B.C." stood for Broome County — the region the club was built to represent rather than a single city, a deliberate nod to the fans who filled the Veterans Memorial Arena from across the Southern Tier.

The Icemen were quickly one of the stronger clubs in the league, taking back-to-back division titles in 1998–99 and 1999–2000. Binghamton had been a minor league hockey town for decades by then, and the Icemen inherited an arena and an audience that already knew the game well. The club folded after the 2001–02 season, closing a five-year run that remains a favorite era for fans who came up watching hockey in Broome County.
