The Orlando Thunder played two seasons in the WLAF / NFL Europe from 1991 to 1992 at the Florida Citrus Bowl. The Thunder reached World Bowl '92 against the Sacramento Surge, falling 21–17 in the championship game and finishing as the runner-up in the final WLAF North American campaign.

Head coach Don Matthews built one of the stronger rosters in the league's brief North American run, and the Thunder remain best known among WLAF supporters for their distinctive uniforms and the run to the 1992 final. Orlando was disbanded along with every U.S. and Canadian franchise when the league paused after 1992 and relaunched as a European-only competition in 1995.
