Canton is where professional football began, and the Bulldogs are the reason. The club formed in 1905 and spent its first fifteen years in the loose circuit of Ohio industrial-town teams that made up the closest thing the sport had to a professional league. In 1915 Canton signed Jim Thorpe — Olympic gold medalist, the most famous athlete in America — for the extraordinary sum of $250 a game. Attendance tripled. Pro football, until then a regional curiosity, suddenly had a national draw.
On September 17, 1920, representatives from a handful of teams met in the showroom of Ralph Hay's Hupmobile dealership on Cleveland Avenue in Canton. Sitting on running boards and folding chairs because there weren't enough seats, they founded the American Professional Football Association, the organization that would rename itself two years later and grow into the largest sports league in the world. Hay owned the Bulldogs. Thorpe was named the league's first president, largely for the credibility his name carried.
Then came the run. Under player-coach Guy Chamberlin, Canton went 10–0–2 in 1922 and 11–0–1 in 1923 — back-to-back undefeated championship seasons and a 25-game unbeaten streak that still stands among the longest in professional football. The Bulldogs allowed 15 total points across the entire 1922 season.
Winning did not pay the bills. Canton was the smallest city in the league, and after the 1923 title the franchise was sold to a Cleveland owner who moved the best players east and won the 1924 championship with them. A revived Bulldogs squad played in Canton in 1925 and 1926 before folding for good. The city got the last word: when the Pro Football Hall of Fame opened in 1963, it opened in Canton, two miles from where the league was founded.

How to order
- Type the number and/or name you'd like on the jersey in the customization fields. You can leave the name field blank if you only want a number.
- Names and numbers are made in ALL CAPS by default. If you want a specific style — such as a lowercase letter or mixed case — please add to the order notes, and/or email custom@royalretros.com.
- To order a fully blank jersey, check the "Leave blank" box. Blank jerseys still require full production time — we don't keep them in stock.
Important review carefully before ordering
Once your order is placed:
- Changes can only be made within 48 hours of purchase. After 48 hours, the order has entered production and we can't modify it.
- Cancellations after 48 hours are subject to a 20% restocking fee.
Construction options
Many jerseys offer choices like application method (replica/printed vs sewn tackle twill), sleeve length, or add-on patches. The available options appear on the customization screen as you go through it.
Custom measurements
We can produce jerseys in custom measurements including women's and youth sizes. We can also modify other details on the jerseys shown on the site. For these requests, email custom@royalretros.com before ordering.
Blank-jersey exchanges
Custom jerseys ordered blank (no name or number) can be exchanged for another size or for store credit. Custom jerseys with a name or number printed/sewn are final sale.

Production timeframe
Custom jerseys are made-to-order and ship in 3-7 weeks depending on construction style. The exact lead time for the style you choose is shown on the Decoration Type screen during customization.
Expedited shipping
Choosing an expedited shipping method does not speed up production, it only affects how we ship the order once it's been made. If you need your jersey by a specific date, contact us before ordering.

Standard shipping starts at $5.99. Free Economy shipping on US orders $125+. International shipping available to most countries.
