The San Antonio Riders played two seasons in the WLAF / NFL Europe from 1991 to 1992, splitting home games between Alamo Stadium and Bobcat Stadium in San Marcos. The Riders gave South Texas a professional spring-football franchise during the WLAF's North American era.

Head coach Mike Riley led the team, building one of the more competitive rosters in the league. The Riders folded with the rest of the North American franchises when the WLAF paused after 1992 and relaunched as a European-only competition in 1995 — though San Antonio's appetite for spring football would later return with USFL, XFL, and Alliance of American Football ventures.
