Who Are the Santurce Cangrejeros?

The Cangrejeros de Santurce — the Santurce Crabbers — are one of the most beloved and successful franchises in the history of the Puerto Rican Winter League, based in the Santurce district of San Juan. For generations the Cangrejeros have been a powerhouse of Caribbean baseball and a winter home to many of the greatest players the game has ever known.

The Panic Squad — Mays and Clemente in the Same Outfield

The 1954–55 Cangrejeros are still regarded as one of the greatest Caribbean clubs of all time — nicknamed the "Escuadrón del Pánico," the Panic Squad. That team famously featured a 19-year-old Roberto Clemente and a reigning National League MVP in Willie Mays patrolling the same outfield, and powered Santurce to victory in the 1955 Caribbean Series. It is one of the legendary rosters in baseball history.
