The San Diego Sails played just 11 games in the ABA in October–November 1975 as the rebranded continuation of the San Diego Conquistadors. Once it became clear the franchise would not be included in the upcoming merger with the established league — the rumored cause being their feud with the Lakers over the Wilt Chamberlain coaching situation — the Sails folded due to severe financial issues, ending San Diego's three-season ABA run.
