The Portland Rosebuds were charter members of the West Coast Negro Baseball Association in 1946 — a short-lived league that brought top-level Black baseball to the Pacific Northwest. The Rosebuds barnstormed alongside league rivals like the Seattle Steelheads, Oakland Larks, San Francisco Sea Lions, San Diego Tigers, and Los Angeles White Sox during the league's lone season.
When the West Coast Negro League folded mid-season due to financial issues, most franchises — including the Rosebuds — pivoted to barnstorming the West Coast and Canada in the NLB era's twilight.
