The Los Angeles Monarchs played four seasons in the Pacific Coast Hockey League (PCHL) from 1946 to 1950, giving Southern California one of its earliest professional hockey identities. Playing at the Pan-Pacific Auditorium, the Monarchs were part of the post-war West Coast minor-pro hockey boom that brought the sport to Los Angeles two decades before the city's top-tier expansion era arrived.

The Monarchs built modest crowds across their four-season run, competing alongside other PCHL franchises in the post-war era of West Coast hockey. Financial pressures and the difficulty of sustaining hockey in a market without a strong tradition forced the Monarchs to fold after the 1949–50 season, ending one of the earliest chapters of professional hockey in Los Angeles.
