The Cincinnati Royals played 15 seasons in the top tier of professional basketball, from 1957 to 1972 at Cincinnati Gardens, as the relocated continuation of the 1951-champion Rochester Royals. The era was defined by Hall of Fame guard Oscar Robertson, who averaged a triple-double in 1961–62 and won league MVP in 1964.

Jerry Lucas, Nate Archibald, Wayne Embry and Jack Twyman joined Robertson on the roster, but the Royals never reached the Finals. The franchise relocated to Kansas City after the 1971–72 season.
