The Hamilton Tigers played five seasons at the top tier of professional hockey, established when the Quebec Bulldogs franchise was sold to Hamilton interests for the 1920–21 season. Coached and part-owned by Percy Thompson, the Tigers struggled through four losing seasons before finishing first in 1924–25 at 19–10–1, the league's best regular-season record.

Hamilton never reached the playoffs. The players walked out demanding $200 each for extra games added to the schedule; league president Frank Calder had their back pay withheld and declared the Montreal Canadiens league champions instead, fining each Tigers player $200. The franchise was dissolved, and its players' contracts were sold to New York interests in 1925 to stock the new New York Americans.
