The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) was the dominant indoor-soccer league in the United States from 1978 to 1992. Though the outdoor North American Soccer League (NASL) had hosted indoor matches a few years earlier, it was the MISL that popularized 6-a-side soccer played on a field matching the dimensions of an ice-hockey rink.

Over its 14-year run the league hosted teams in 27 different cities — from the Buffalo Stallions and Pittsburgh Spirit to the Cleveland Force, Hartford Hellions, and Chicago Horizons.
