The Hamburg Sea Devils were a professional American football team based in Hamburg, Germany, that played in NFL Europe from 2005 to 2007. The Sea Devils joined the league in 2005, replacing the discontinued Scottish Claymores, and in only their third season captured the final World Bowl ever played — a fairy-tale ending for a short-lived franchise.

The Hamburg Sea Devils Era-by-Era History

2005 — The Founding. Hamburg entered NFL Europe replacing the Claymores, playing their first game on April 2, 2005. The franchise quickly built a strong Hamburg following.

2006 — Building a Contender. The Sea Devils developed into one of the league's better teams, setting the stage for a championship run the following year.

June 23, 2007 — World Bowl XV. In the final game in league history, the Sea Devils defeated the defending-champion Frankfurt Galaxy 37–28 — the highest-scoring World Bowl ever played, with 65 combined points. Quarterback Casey Bramlet was named MVP after throwing a World Bowl-record four touchdown passes. Head coach Vince Martino was named Coach of the Year.

The End of NFL Europa. Days after the title, on June 29, 2007, the NFL announced it was shutting down NFL Europa. The Sea Devils' championship became the final word in the league's history — a team that went out as champions.
