Team: Austin Ice Bats
Years Active: 1996–2008 (WPHL 1996–2001 · CHL 2001–2008)
Home: Travis County Exposition Center, 1996–2006 · Chaparral Ice, 2006–2008 — Austin, TX

The Austin Ice Bats brought professional hockey to the Texas state capital in 1996 as a founding Western Professional Hockey League franchise, continuing in the Central Hockey League after the WPHL merged into it in 2001. The Ice Bats built a cult following around their bat-themed identity across twelve seasons, playing first at the Travis County Exposition Center and moving to the smaller Chaparral Ice rink in 2006.

Falling attendance at the new rink, and a new professional franchise set to enter the market, closed the book on the Ice Bats in 2008 — ending the city's longest professional hockey run to date.
